Hans Schiebold is a painter, designer, artesian and creator of visual art who is based in sunny Seaford, Australia.

Urban landscape painting is Hans’s passion. The early influential years living in Munich, where he was surrounded by history and design which inspired his innate attention to detail, placement, and perspective.
“The Melbourne inner city landscape holds great interest to me. The diverse architecture portrays our history and displays characteristic features of particular periods of time. Significant landmarks, beautiful milestones of days past that form the basis of my work.”

Childhood memories interweave in Hans’s work, as seen in this painting, The Loft.
“In European cities, lofts are very common. We lived in a four-story apartment building in Haidhausen, with a loft. Often elaborately decorated, these historical windows offer a view from the inside, to the outside world. Here in Melbourne, lofts are rarely seen yet particularly special when you find one, just as elaborate.”

Urban Landscape Paintings
I love the endless blue skies of Melbourne. The tiny little Victorian cottages, contrasted with the grand homes of the past. Beautiful historical architecture with interesting features that inspire my paintings.
My paintings are inspired by the inner-city suburbs of Melbourne.
Drawn to the older areas of the city like Collingwood, Fitzroy, Carlton, and St.Kilda I find interest in the historical and the new.
It all begins when I see something and get an idea.
Photography documents the vision, the subject’s details. In the studio I sketch up possible compositions for the painting. When I am happy with the placement the painting begins.
Often preconceived ideas of how the work will come together are modified along the way. Spontaneity plays an important role in the creative process, directing the outcome of the painting.
A Window -
An artwork
Windows are a reoccurring theme in Hans’s works.
Dating back to the 13th Century, windows have evolved in their structure, design and materials. The subject of windows often seen in Han’s paintings are inspired by the single-hung sash window as seen here in “Room with a view,” common to the Victorian Terraces of inner-city suburbs of Melbourne.
Fascinated by the historical window reveals, and the history of the decorative trims; moldings as we know them today, link to our past, to a time when the window jamb was made by hand.
